The Assault On Salt . . . Well Seasoned Advice.
NATURAL HEALTHY SALTS ARE:
GOOD
PROCESSED IODIZED SALTS ARE:
BAD
THERE ARE NUMEROUS TYPES, COLORS AND FLAVORS OF ALL NATURAL SALTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. SEA SALTS ARE THE MOST COMMONLY KNOWN.
When it comes to matters of health, salt has received a lot of negative press. It has been labeled as a cheap flavoring condiment with hidden and dangerous health risks. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth, as forms of natural salt could be just what our body needs for healing, health and longevity. Salt has always been a part of the human diet. So what has changed to cause the alarm bells to go off concerning this now dangerous blood pressure elevating, kidney damaging and stroke causing substance? There is a very simple answer to this question; modern methods of salt production have given salt a bad name and made it unhealthy in the process.
All salts we consume in our diet are obtained from sea salt beds or mined from inland salt deposits. Whether salt is good or bad depends on what happens next. Good salt is not tampered with in the harvesting and production process and retains an amazing number of essential minerals as a result. There are more than eighty minerals present in all natural salt that have many health oriented benefits. Natural salt is not white or dry to the touch. In fact, it comes in a variety of colors, feels damp and forms clumps when exposed to humidity. Unrefined salt is the best choice when it comes to healthy dietary consumption.
Bad salt, on the other hand, takes a completely different path and is processed and refined before consumption. This type of salt is unhealthy and is known commonly as table salt. It has been stripped of its accompanying minerals through an extensive heating process which sometimes can reach temperatures as high as 1200 degrees. In addition to this heating process, refined salt is mixed with a chemical drying agent and often contains additives such as aluminum silicate to keep it powdery and porous. To top it off, it is then bleached to give it that pretty white color. It is no wonder that salt has been given a bad name; look at what modern science and production methods have done to it.
Now that we have identified the differences between good salt and bad salt, we have to ask ourselves this question; is there more to the negative assault on salt? Yes! Our diets are based upon very busy schedules, along with quick and easy meals, which means we are consuming practically everything from a can, bag or box. As a result, most of the foods we are eating contain very high levels of bad refined salts in the form of preservatives and flavorings. This high intake of bad refined salt is truly causing people to become unhealthy. Not only are we eating too much salt, we are complicating matters by ingesting a majority of it in the form of bad salt. Is this unhealthy dietary activity salts fault? The answer to this is a resounding NO!
Salt pleads innocent and studies are proving more and more everyday that it is not the culprit of many health problems. The true cause of poor health is the lack of a balanced mineral rich diet. Instead of eating foods high in minerals, such as nuts, fruit and vegetables, people are filling themselves up with mineral empty processed foods and fizzy drinks. Your doctor may not tell you this fact, but a balanced diet consisting of all natural minerals will go further to maintain a healthy life than reducing salt alone. Reducing bad salt intake and replacing it with good, all natural salt, may just be the recipe for good health.
Contrary to popular belief, salt is not the enemy. By no means should it be eliminated from the diet. On the other hand, everyone should be aware of the role salt plays in a balanced nutrition program and make sure excessive salt is not consumed. The preferred source of any vitamin, mineral or other nutrients is always natural, unprocessed foods. Unrefined salt has a wide range of minerals, including potassium, magnesium and calcium, providing the body with a complex of nutrients that it needs to function optimally. The use of this type of salt will not cause elevated blood pressure. In fact, due to its abundance of minerals, it can actually help lower the blood pressure in hypertensive patients. If you have never tried all natural good salt, you are going to be amazed at how great it tastes and how affordable it is. You may also be surprised at how quickly your health improves from using all natural salt.
