We use a number of highly-effective adjusting
approaches to help improve spinal biomechanics
and reduce nervous system interference. The
approach we use is based on our clinical expertise
and years of experience.
Diversified Technique is the classic chiropractic technique,
developed by D.D. Palmer, DC. The focus is on restoration to normal
biomechanical function, and correction of subluxation. This technique
is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques.
We offer patient care that is naturally designed to
be low-stress, so the techniques used in our office
are generally performed with little, if any
discomfort. All care is delivered with a customized
approach, so treatment plans may involve several
different adjusting techniques or rehab strategies
designed to improve one's health including.
THE PRIMARY ADJUSTING TECHNIQUES WE USE INCLUDE:
|
DIVERSIFIED
The Gonstead system utilizes the full-spine approach with emphasis on
the subluxation/compensation mechanism and the level disc concept.
Heavy emphasis is placed on differentiating between the sympathetic and
parasympathetic nervous systems and the symptoms related to each.
This assists the chiropractor in the quest to find and correct the specific
subluxation.

GONSTEAD SYSTEM
This is a hand-held, spring-loaded instrument that is used with
a protocol. Instead of manipulation/adjustment forces being
delivered by hand, force is generated with the small appliance
that delivers a lighter, but quicker thrust than can be delivered by
hand. Activator can be used as a primary protocol for all patients
or a selective method for patients who may not desire manual
manipulation or where manual (by hands) may be
contraindicated. The spring-loaded instrument is used with a
specific line of drive and can be set to deliver force ranging from
9 to 33 pounds per square inch. Before an adjustment is
administered, leg length checks and isolation tests of joint
motion are performed to identify joints to be adjusted, and these
tests can be used to check adjustment effectiveness afterwards.
The Doctors primarily use this technique on the elderly, children
and those patients with osteoporosis.
ACTIVATOR
This is a specific chiropractic technique that uses mechanical
and hands-on manipulation. There is a special table that is used
where the spine is tractioned and flexed forward.
COX FLEXION-DISTRACTION
Developed by Clay Thompson, DC, Thompson Technique uses
an adjusting table with a pneumatically driven, segmented drop
system, which quickly lowers the section of the patient’s body
corresponding with the spinal region being adjusted. The doctor
thrusts at high speed, using minimal force, because while the
thrust initiates movement, the fast drop carries the joint through
the remainder of its range of motion. The "Segmental Drop
System" takes advantage of the spine's inherent design of the
joints in order to move the spinal segment in the direction that
will improve the motion of the segment with the one above and
below. It just makes good sense that since the spinal joints face
front to back and have an incline that slopes more naturally
THOMPSON
Integral to use of Logan Basic Technique is the Logan System of Body Mechanics. Dr. Logan’s system
of calculating compensatory mechanisms, which occur as a result of postural distortions and correction
of those distortions, also serves as a foundation for overall understanding of spinal biomechanics that
can be applied using virtually any adjusting technique.
LOGAN BASIC
This is the application of chiropractic manipulation to joints other
than those in the spine, i.e., shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand/finger, hip,
knee, ankle/foot/toe. Examples of what conditions can be treated this
way are as follows: carpal tunnel, plantar fasciitis, posture-related
problems, etc. All extremity adjusting performed by Dr. May and Dr.
Allen utilizes the Diversified adjusting technique.
This technique was developed by Logan Chiropractic
College founder H.B. Logan, DC. . The technique is
based on light, sustained force exerted against a
specific contact point on the sacrum at the base of the
spine. Auxiliary contacts at various points in the spine, or
along specific muscles such as the piriformus can also
be used. Basic Technique uses the muscular structure
surrounding the sacrum as a lever system for balancing
the entire structure of the spine. This technique is used
to reduce pain/symptoms and restore muscle balance
and is one of the lowest-force adjusting techniques.
EXTREMITY MANIPULATION / ADJUSTING
This is a hands-on technique, which seeks to free the body from the grip
of tight fascia, or connective tissue, thus restoring normal alignment and
function and reducing pain. Using their hands, the doctors apply mild,
sustained pressure to gently stretch and soften the fascia. Myofascial
release is used to treat neck and back pain, headaches, recurring sports
injuries and scoliosis, among other conditions.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
Diversified adjusting of the spine uses specific line of drive for all
manual thrusts, allowing for specificity in correcting mechanical
distortions and imbalances of the spine. Case histories are used in
analysis and diagnosis. Instruments are not used in the adjusting
procedure. Motion palpatation and full spine, hands-on techniques
are used to deliver a deeper effective manual thrust.
The Diversified adjustment entails a high-velocity; low amplitude
thrust that usually results in a cavitation (popping sound that you may
experience). As the name implies, the Diversified Technique can be
used to treat many of the joints in the body. Most chiropractors in the
world incorporate some diversified adjusting in their professional
practice.
Think of an adjustment as "tuning" a harp. Adjusting each string so it can produce the "perfect melodious tone".
|
A special hand arrangement called a “pisiform contact” is used to deliver a specific thrust at the right place and the right time.
|
The "Activator Instrument" is a hand- held instrument that delivers a precise, repeatable force at just the right angle.
|
Gently drawing apart each joint like an accordion, allows the spine to reset, and the pumping action enhances soft tissue nutrition and rehabilitation.
|
This technique is primarily utilized to treat cervical and lumbar
disc herniations, non-disc disorders and to increase mobility
of the spinal joints. The Cox Technique is also designed to be
a safe, nearly painless alternative to back surgery, and is
commonly used in patients who are still suffering from back pain
after extensive surgery, or are in the rehabilitation phase and
want to improve their recovery results.
The technique is designed to realign the spine by applying
pressure in key areas of the back; the chiropractor effectively
decompresses the discs by applying a gentle stretch to the
lower spine, and a series of repetitive movements and thrusts
to reduce pressure.
The Flexion-Distraction technique is typically performed on a special table that helps to separate the
thoracic, cervical and lumbar spinal joints. Only slight pressure is applied to the body throughout the
process, and the goal is to decrease pressure and decompress the inflamed areas around the spine to
restore nerve functioning.
After gently lowering you to a prone position, individual drop pieces give way, reducing the amount of energy needed to adjust your spine.

backwards that we can affect increased motion by applying an adjustment from posterior to anterior with
an inferior to superior line of correction. Leg length checks, palpation, X-rays and other appropriate tests
are used by the Thompson practitioner in determining where to adjust.
